Vijay Sethupathi on his film 'Super Deluxe' not making to the Oscars despite being shortlisted: 'Something happened...'

Back in 2019, Vijay Sethupathi starred in Super Deluxe, a critically and commercially acclaimed film that saw him as a transgender and which was even shortlisted for the Academy awards. But what happened that it didn't make it to the final cut?

While speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the actor revealed, "We know that something happened. It’s not because I was in that film. Even if I am not in that film, I want that film should go there. Something happened in between and I don’t want to talk about that. It’s unnecessary." He hinted at 'politics'.

What’s novel about the film is how it is told in a repetitive story format that reveals a little more with each narration. Vijay Sethupathi’s voice-over adds an increasing sense of urgency with each narration and beautifully synchronises with the edit.

Vijay Sethupathi plays the character of a transwoman in the movie. His make-up and look had been appreciated in social media.
