The Jungle Book's Oscar win: Bengaluru team behind special effects celebrates Academy Award

The Academy Awards nominated the best of the best for the visual effect category this year, but in the end there could be only one winner, and it was Disney’s The Jungle Book. The film was competing against the like of Doctor Strange and Rogue One.The part live-action film, part animated feature adaptation of the classic children's book was aimed at audiences of all ages which is what made the film a huge box-office hit, with it earning $966 million worldwide.[caption id="attachment_2721018" align="alignleft" width="380"] From 'The Jungle Book'. This feat was accomplished with the help of the MPC studios, which has a branch in Bengaluru too.The animation studio has a team of 300 odd designers in its Bengaluru studio who helped create the special effects on the film reports New Indian Express.The involved a group of 300-odd designers in the Bengaluru studio of MPC and few others at the London studio. Explaining how each frame was generated, Biren Ghose, executive director of Moving Picture Company (MPC) said that the detailing in the movie was such that each frame took 18 hours to render. Rendering is a process by which images are synthesised from designing softwares. Each second has 22 frames under standard definition and twice the number of frames for 3D."The different frames had realistic renders of about 70-80 environments and hundreds of unique animals," Ghose noted.During the film-making process, there was regular contact between the team in London and daily approvals for various processes were issued from the head office of the studio at Los Angeles.The studio is looking forward to an exciting year, he said, as movies for which the Bengaluru studio had worked on, such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Aliens:Covenant is slated to be released this year.
