Tamil actor Jai fined; driving licence suspended for six months over drunk and rash driving

Jai Sampath was found driving under the influence after he rammed his car into a divider of the Adayar flyover in Chennai on the night of 21 September.

Tamil actor Jai Sampath, known for his roles in films like Chennai 600028 (2007) and Raja Rani (2013), has been slapped with a fine of Rs 5200 and a 6-month-long suspension of driving licence.[caption id="attachment_4121465" align="alignleft" width="380"]Jai Sampath. Image via Facebook/Jai[/caption]He was found driving under the influence of alcohol after he rammed his car into a divider of the Adayar flyover in Chennai on the night of 21 September while returning from a party. The actor was arrested on the same night after the police found him drunk but was later released on bail.In a report by The Hindu, the actor confessed to his guilt at the court on Saturday. "You are charged with drunken driving by the police. Do you admit it?" asked a metropolitan magistrate to the actor. "Yes, sir! I admit the guilt," said Jai, head bowed down.Jai has been charged with six offenses including — rash driving, drunken driving, driving an uninsured vehicle, using a vehicle in an unsafe condition, usage of sun film on the vehicle and not having the specified size of number plate, reports The Hindu.According to a report by The New Indian Express, the Subramaniapuram actor didn't appear in the court for a scheduled hearing on Monday  and maintained his absence even on Wednesday. The court, irked by Jai's disregard towards jurisdictional procedures, demanded that he is brought immediately before the court. Finally he appeared for the hearing on Saturday in front of a metropolitan magistrate in the Saidapet court.This is not the first time that he is found drunk driving. Back in 2014, Jai was booked for a similar offence when he had rammed his car into a divider on the road near Kasi Theatre in Ashok Nagar, as per the same report.
