Rahul Bose on Poorna's poor box-office performance: Will never produce a film without a recognisable face

Rahul Bose recently spoke about his latest directorial Poorna: Courage Has No Limit, stating that he would never produce a film in future that did not have a star headliner. Poorna is inspired from the true story of Malavath Poorna, who was a tribal girl from Telangana. She made headlines on 25 May, 2014 when she became the youngest girl in the world to climb Mount Everest at the age of 13. Bose mentioned that in a country which was quite passionate about sports films, a feature on the world's youngest girl to have scaled Mount Everest seemed like a good commercial opportunity. "Everybody thinks it was really gutsy to make a Rs 10 crore film on a 13-year-old girl climbing Mt Everest. I just thought it was a fantastic mainstream film. 'Little girl climbs Everest, holds Indian flag' what can get more mainstream than this? I wondered."The actor-cum-director also noted that except for the main metros in the country, smaller cities were more hesitant about giving a chance to films which did not have a known star. Poorna: Courage Has No Limit did considerable business only in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Pune and Ahmedabad."You can say there are new stories and Bollywood is changing. But if you don't have a recognised face, go home," Rahul added.He also mentioned that the makers had got a good deal with Amazon Prime, Zee for overseas broadcasting of Poorna: Courage Has No Limit. With all such added gains, the film has recently broken even. The actor also added that he was given a good offer to release the film in China.
