Santoshi, who also directed Deol in 'Damini' and 'Ghatak', stated, "I believe that the industry has not done justice to Sunny’s talent. But God has done justice."

Sunny Deol attended the 54th International Film Festival of India and at a masterclass, he was seen in an interaction with Rahul Rawail, Anil Sharma, and Rajkumar Santoshi, three of the most important filmmakers of his career. Talking about each of them separately, the star shed light on his 40-year journey in films."I was very fortunate. I started with Rahul. He gave me three beautiful films. Some worked, some didn’t. But till today, people remember those films. I am standing here because of my films," Deol said about Rawail. On Anil Sharma's GadarAfter 'Gadar', which was a massive hit, my struggle period had started because subjects or scripts were not offered to me and things were not happening. Even though I did some films in between, there was a gap of 20 years. But I did not give up. I was always moving forward. I joined films because I wanted to become an actor, not a star. I had seen the films of my father and I too wanted to do films of that variety. To this, Rajkumar Santoshi added, "I believe that the industry has not done justice to Sunny’s talent. But God has done justice." Deol could then be seen being moved to tears.Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol were back on Karan Johar’s show Koffee With Karan 8 after 18 years. In a candid chat with Johar on the show, Sunny spoke about the success of the Gadar franchise, and about the challenges and struggles he faced post the release.Talking about the same, Sunny Deol said, “After my first Gadar was released, it became a phenomenal hit. My struggle started after that. Before that I didn’t know that it would be so difficult. I was doing films left right and centre. But things started becoming more difficult after that. Struggling in a way means I could not work with directors I wanted, I was not getting scripts that I wanted.”
