All Potterheads, gather around! In what came as a major surprise for all, the Harry Potter TV series is finally moving forward with Warner Bros Discovery aiming for a 2026 release date for the highly anticipated project. This update will definitely take the excitement level among fans to the next level, who were eagerly awaiting the television series based on J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter books. Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav on Friday said to have cleared the confusion regarding the release date during his address to the Wall Street analysts on the company's fourth-quarter earnings call.

"We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter. The last film was made more than a dozen years ago," he said while discussing WBD’s franchise strategy.

Zaslav mentioned that he recently spent some time with Casey Bloys (HBO and Max chief), Channing Dungey (WBD TV chief) and J.K. Rowling and her team. Both sides are thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max, he added.

Harry Potter series release date

The Harry Potter TV series is said to mark its debut on Max in 2026. It was initially targeting a 2025 release date: however, the premiere could be in the first quarter, rather than being delayed end of the year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the development of the series kicks back to 2021. Last year, Warner Bros approved the series, stating that the intention was to create seasons based on every novel which would take around 10 years to complete.

While fans can already get excited as the magic is all set to return to the screens, the details about the cast lineup for the TV adaptation are yet to be disclosed. However, if reports are to be believed, none of the original Harry Potter actors will be reprising the roles this time.

“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh. I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," Daniel Radcliffe, the OG Harry Potter told ComicBook.com.
