Han Solo spinoff titled Solo: A Star Wars story; film will release in May 2018

The Han Solo spin-off of "Star Wars" has finally been titled Solo: A Star Wars Story. Director Ron Howard announced the news in a video on Twitter, reports Variety.com.[caption id="attachment_4155795" align="alignnone" width="825"] Han Solo. He said in the video, "Production on the standalone Han Solo movie is wrapping up and it now has a title Solo: A Star Wars Story'.The film follows the young Han Solo, a 20-something version of actor Harrison Ford's character - and Chewbacca's adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their encounters with Lando Calrissian.Howard took over as director in August after the movie's original helmers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were fired. Lord and Miller had a falling out with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and co-writer/executive producer Lawrence Kasdan.The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as the protagonist, Donald Glover as Calrissian, and basketball player Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.Woody Harrelson will portray Han's mentor, while Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge play undisclosed roles. Paul Bettany, Warwick Davis, and Howard's brother, Clint Howard, will also appear in the film.Solo: A Star Wars Story is slated to be released in May 2018.
