Former VJ, model Sophiya Haque passes away in London

Actress, model and best known as a video jockey in India, Sophiya Haque, a familiar face on television during India's satellite channel boom in the 1990s, reportedly passed away in London today.According to sources, Haque had been suffering from pneumonia and had been admitted to a London hospital for treatment for close to a week.[caption id="attachment_592205" align="alignleft" width="380"] Haque was among the first video jockeys in India. Image courtesy: Facebook[/caption]She had also been suffering from cancer, they said.Haque, a video jockey on Music Television when it launched in India, hosted popular programmes on the channel where she had a dedicated following. On the channel at a time when cable television had just been introduced in the country, it made her an instant celebrity among the youth who had just begun tuning into cable television.She then shifted to Channel [V] hosting various shows related to music and other topics.
