'Drishyam 3' Box-Office: Mohanlal's thriller collects a massive Rs 43.37 crore on day 1, actor thanks fans

"Drishyam 3", the hit franchise starring Mohanlal as a man determined to protect his family at all costs, earned Rs 43.37 crore at the box office on its opening day.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph and released in theatres on May 21, the movie, which has spawned remakes in multiple languages including Hindi, collected Rs 18.37 crore (gross) at the domestic box office. The overseas collection of the film stands at Rs 25 crore, according to the trade tracking website Sacnilk.

Mohanlal thanked his fans for showing their love to the movie.

"'Drishyam 3' was made with immense love, passion, and gratitude, and seeing that love come back through your response has been deeply moving.

"Your reviews, your words, and the emotions you have shared mean far more to me than any number ever can. Thank you for watching, for connecting, for feeling every moment, and for embracing Georgekutty and family as your own," Mohanlal posted on X.

The first film in the franchise released in 2013 and became an instant hit with the story of a movie loving cable operator, George Kutty, who goes at length to keep his family away from the clutches of law after they get entangled in an accidental homicide.

The sequel in 2022 was also a major hit. Joseph has directed all the three movies.

"Drishyam" also has Chinese and Sinhalese versions. The Hindi remake features Ajay Devgn in the title role.

What made the occasion of the release a lot more special is that it happened to be the superstar’s birthday and fans have thronged to the cinemas to witness what happens to this family that never gave up.
