Chef, Solo go slow on box office collections; Judwaa 2 mints Rs 108 crore

This week, the Saif Ali Khan-starrer gastronomical delight Chef locked horns with Malayalam heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan's Solo at the box-office. While both the films have been received well by the critics, the box-office collections have been a bit dismal.At the same time, Varun Dhawan's twin-comedy Judwaa 2 continues to rake in moolah even in its second week. The comedy reboot has already enlisted its name in the Rs 100-crore film club.Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted on Twitter and declared David Dhawan's latest offering a 'Superhit'.Judwaa 2 stars Varun Dhawan, Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles and is a reboot of the 1997 Salman Khan-Karisma Kapoor-Rambha comedy riot Judwaa. While Varun's film is riding high, the new entrants — Chef and Solo — are going rather slow. Raja Krishna Menon's Chef, a remake of the 2014 Hollywood film of the same name and directed by Jon Favreau, opened with a meager collection of Rs 1.05 crore. On its second day, it made just a little bit more at Rs 1.35 crore. Rangoon tanked at the box-office in spite getting good reviews for the performances. Similarly, while Saif's performance in Chef is lauded across most quarters, the film's success is still is a big question mark. Chef also stars Padmapriya Janakiraman and Chandan Roy Sanyal.Another film to hit the box-office this week was Bejoy Nambiar's experimental romantic thriller Solo, starring Dulquer Salmaan in four different roles. While the film was expected to be a huge opener at the Malayalam box-office, it didn't quite stand up to its expectations. The film opened with Rs 3.30 crore on the first day.According to Koimoi.com, on its second day, Salmaan's film managed to mint Rs 4.85 crore. Solo was the biggest ever Malayalam release with opening at around 225 screens across the state. But it could not make a record opening at the box-office.However, as the days pass, it can be expected that these films steer towards a profitable mark.
