Cara Delevingne criticised for 'sexist' Jimmy Choo ad that has men catcalling her
The criticism comes days after Cara Delevingne's recent revelations of sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein.
The high street fashion brand Jimmy Choo has run into trouble over its latest ad, featuring model turned actress Cara Delevingne, strutting down a street wearing glittering booties, to catcalls by men. Twitter has slammed the ad and the brand for being ‘sexist’, ‘tone deaf’ and ‘regressive’, as well as Cara Delevingne for normalising the problematic behaviour, as reported by Business Insider."Perhaps now is not the best moment to run an ad about how cool and sexy catcalling is?" Jessica Valenti tweeted in response to the ad. Bonnie Bauman tweeted, “Because being cat-called and harassed on the streets of NYC is just so cool, sexy and fun! Wow. Read the room Jimmy Choo!” Another user said, "Can someone please tell the fashion industry that we have jobs and money now? They seem to keep selling exclusively to the men in our lives with these campaigns. Someone should let them know." The criticism was also directed at Delevingne, with tweets like, “Oh dear @Caradelevingne. Sad that you took part in this awful, regressive advertisement.” The criticism follows Delevingne’s recent revealtions about her horrifying sexual harassment experience with disgraced movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein. The Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets star has not addressed the social media backlash on the ad so far.
