BBC orders Oscar Wilde documentary with Stephen Fry, Freddie Fox, Claire Skinner

A new documentary about Oscar Wilde, featuring Stephen Fry and Freddie Fox, has been ordered by BBC, reports Variety. The documentary is set to have a stellar cast, which will recreate some of Wilde's iconic works such as The Importance of Being Earnest, The Picture of Dorian Gray and the like. The film will be titled The Importance of Being Oscar and will be aired on BBC Two in the UK.[caption id="attachment_5953601" align="alignnone" width="825"]

Images from Facebook[/caption]Freddie Fox, Claire Skinner, Anna Chancellor and James Fleet will all feature and perform in the show, which clocks in at 80 minutes.Stephen Fry, Oscar Wilde's grandson Merlin Holland, along with the author's most recent biographer Matthew Sturgis will weigh in on Wilde's glorious career, riddled with many scandals. They will also examine the author's place in the high society of the day. Audiences will also get a more detailed view of Wilde's life through experts, enthusiasts and biographers.Variety quotes Franny Moyle, the executive producer of the show, as saying, “We felt that the story of Oscar’s trial, imprisonment and the final years have been well-covered. But the story of his fuller life, and the importance and brilliance of the work he created before his fall, deserved fuller attention alongside an account of his tragic demise.” Moyle adds that it was a 'ripe' time to re-evaluate the author's life and times.
