Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty-starrer 'Dhadkan' to get a sequel? Director Dharmesh Darshan spills the beans

At a time when sequels are ruling the market and have taken Bollywood by storm, it seems like there are many more in the making. From the record-breaking success of Gadar 2, OMG 2, and Dream Girl 2 to the upcoming sequels Fukrey 3 and Tiger 3, all have left the audience surprised.

These sequels have emerged as unforgettable gems, and among these iconic Bollywood classics, it is reported that the 2000 release Dhadkan starring Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, and Suniel Shetty is in the making. In a recent interview with an entertainment news portal, director Dharmesh Darshan revealed that he has two-to-three interesting ideas in the bank with different castings for the sequel.

Dharmesh Darshan Spills Beans About Plans For Dhadkan 2

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Dharmesh Darshan shared that a lot of people have repeatedly asked him about his comeback in the showbiz world. People are missing the kind of work he did in the past, and this makes him happy. He further revealed that apart from Raja Hindustani (1996), people are generally asking him about one particular film, Dhadkan, and whether he will be doing its sequel.

To which, the ace director revealed his plans and informed, “At this moment, all I can say is yes! I have been offered Dhadkan 2 by Mr Ratan Jain (Producer of Dhadkan). He has been offering me the film for a decade, and I have been resisting as I was not sure then I was told that Dhadkan is a classic. It’s like making the second part of Kabhi Kabhie! This film was not an action entertainer or comic caper, Dhadkan was a film with a lot of soul. It has stood the test of time and I don’t believe in encashing on it.”

He went on to say, “But now people have gone hammer and tongs after the huge success of Gadar 2. Hence, the film was offered yet again to me in the last 10-15 days and I made it clear to the producer that I’d make the film only if we didn’t compromise on any front. I don’t know how big a hit it will be, even for the first part, I was not sure. It had an ‘off casting’, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty were action heroes then.”

Will Fans See The Iconic Trio In Dhadkan 2 Again?

On being asked if the sequel would be made with the original cast, the iconic trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty, filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan responded, “I haven’t thought about the casting at all.”

Before concluding, the director also revealed that the script is not yet locked. “I have two-three ideas with possibilities of interesting and different castings,” he added.
