Nusery school admissions: SC refuses to stay Delhi HC order

Agencies.[/caption]New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to grant a stay on the Delhi High Court's order on nursery school admissions in Delhi, which will allow admissions to continue for now. However SC has deferred the hearing to 31 January, which means that if it strikes down the guidelines later, it could prove to be a hassle for parents.The Delhi High Court had upheld the guidelines set by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung of Delhi which had abolished 20 percent management quota in schools and also set an 8 km neighbourhood criteria to give preference to kids staying near the school.SK Bhattacharya, who is a member of the Action Committee Unaided Recognised Private Schools, told Firstpost, “The fight is for the autonomy of private schools. The LG’s guidelines are infringing on the autonomy of the private schools and our appeal is against them. We’ll have to wait and see what the court says next week.”   For now the admission process will continue as it is, says Bhattacharya.However parents are growing anxious given that the court has delayed the hearing. According to Sumit Vohra of AdmissionNursery website, " Parents are fed up now as this situation never arose in last 5-6 years where nursery admission has become such a long legal battle after schools have  moved Supreme Court.Many parents did not submit the forms anticipating impact of Supreme Court and are confused that their forms might be rejected if schools gets stay and criteria is changed."
