SEBI to issue advisory on market vulnerabilities, urges proactive cyber risk mitigation
Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey says market participants must stay alert to emerging threats like “Mythos” and use available tools to strengthen resilience

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) will soon issue a detailed advisory guiding market participants on identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said on Monday, underscoring rising concerns around cybersecurity risks in the financial ecosystem.
Speaking on the sidelines of the IMC Capital Market Conference 2026, Pandey said the regulator has already engaged with key stakeholders and is finalising guidelines that will require market players to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to address potential threats.
“We have engaged with all stakeholders, and shortly we will issue an advisory on how they should remain alert to vulnerabilities and play a proactive role,” he said.
Pandey specifically flagged “Mythos”—believed to be a sophisticated cybersecurity threat or vulnerability, noting that while it is currently accessible to only a limited set of entities, it still poses significant systemic risks.
He urged institutions to leverage available technological tools to detect vulnerabilities early and strengthen their cyber defence mechanisms.
The SEBI chief added that multiple agencies, including CERSAI and the Reserve Bank of India, are closely examining the issue, indicating a coordinated regulatory response.
Pandey’s remarks come at a time when financial markets are increasingly exposed to digital threats, prompting regulators to push for stronger safeguards and greater preparedness among institutions.
