Indian-origin technology executive Parag Agrawal has been appointed as the new CEO of Twitter after the social media giant’s co-founder Jack Dorsey stepped down on Monday.Agrawal said in a note posted on Twitter that he is “honoured and humbled” on his appointment and expressed gratitude to Dorsey’s “continued mentorship and your friendship.”Here's what you need to know about the new Twitter CEO:
- Agrawal holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
- He worked as a research intern for Microsoft, Yahoo!, and AT&T Labs.
- Agrawal joined Twitter 10 years ago when there were fewer than 1,000 employees.
- He became Twitter's first Distinguished Software Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering, including his impact on the re-acceleration of audience growth in 2016 and 2017.
- He was appointed CTO in March 2018, taking over from Adam Messinger.
- As CTO he was responsible for "Twitter’s technical strategy and overseeing machine learning and AI across the consumer, revenue, and science teams".
