Alstom nets Rs 3,250 cr contract from Power Grid Corporation

Alstom said it will execute the Rs 3,250 crore Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current link between Champa (Chhattisgarh) and Kurukshetra (Haryana).

New Delhi: Alstom has been awarded euro 400million (Rs 3,250 crore) from state-run Power Grid Corporation

for building a transmission link between Haryana andChhattisgarh.

It will execute the Rs 3,250 crore Ultra-High VoltageDirect Current link between Champa (Chhattisgarh) and

Kurukshetra (Haryana), the French power equipment maker saidin a statement.

This new 3,000 MW transmission link will run parallel tothe first UHVDC transmission link awarded to Alstom in 2012,increasing the total transmission capacity of the system to6,000 MW.

The link will transfer clean, bulk power efficiently fromthe Chhattisgarh region to the load centre in the northern

region of the country, Alstom said.

It will build converter terminal stations, convertertransformers, gas-insulated switchgear, substation equipment,

and communication and supervisory control and data acquisitionsystems (SCADA).

All equipment will be manufactured by Alstom's facilitiesin India, United Kingdom, France and Italy.

"Alstom has been the frontrunner in deploying the latestHVDC technology and solutions in India. The Champa-Phase IIHVDC project follows the earlier success of Champa-Phase I,and confirms Alstom's market and technological leadership inthe HVDC domain," Rathin Basu, Managing Director of Alstom T&DIndia said.

HVDC is increasingly the preferred choice for utilitiesto ensure efficient, reliable and bulk power transmission.

In India, Alstom has supplied HVDC systems for Vizag(Andhra Pradesh), Chandrapur (Maharashtra) and Sasaram

(Bihar).
