The government had on 11 August approved three-month extension to Nandan "with the direction that the process of selection of a new CMD may be completed in the meantime".

However, the government could not complete the process of appointment of the new CMD following which today's order was issued.

The tenure of Ramesh Abhishek, chairman of Forward Markets Commission, has also been extended for a period of three months beyond 8 October, another DoPT order said.
