United Telecom Selects UTStarcom's GEPON

United Telecom has selected UTStarcom's Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) to construct fiber network in Goa.

UTStarcom, a provider of IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, has announced a contract with United Telecom Limited to deploy its Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) fiber access solution to serve as the foundation for the new Statewide Area Network (SWAN) in Goa, India.

“This contract represents our first GEPON contract win in India and is further proof of UTStarcom’s dominant position as the leading provider of innovative broadband technologies to the Indian market,” claimed Vijay Yadav, managing director, South Asia Operations, UTStarcom.

UTStarcom’s FTTx solution will be used to provide high-speed fiber connectivity across all state government offices in Goa for running e-Governance applications. The network will be capable of delivering up to one gigabit-per-second bandwidth to each office and is expected to be extended in the near future to cover the sub–districts and villages to enable the Goa state government to provide better services to its citizens.

According to Dr. Rajmohan Rao, Managing Director at United Telecom Limited. “UTStarcom's fiber solution will enable us to deliver high-speed access to our subscribers over which we intend to offer a slew of services including e-Governance applications, broadcast-quality IPTV and on-demand entertainment services, tele-medicine, distance learning and e-commerce.”
