Toyota Alphard Hybrid luxury MPV may come to India

You may have seen them running about town. While they look like large boxy vehicles, they have the creature comforts of luxury SUVs and more. We are talking about luxury MPVs and if Toyota has its way, it may bring its Alphard luxury MPV to India.[caption id="attachment_332785" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Toyota Global[/caption]Overdrive reports that Toyota Kirloskar Motor is considering launching one of its luxury MPVs in India. This would specifically be an Alphard and it could be a hybrid. Toyota has seen plenty of success with its Innova MPV and the recently launched high-end Innova Crysta (starts at Rs 26 lakhs) is reason enough to believe that MPVs are a success in the country.[caption id="attachment_332786" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Toyota Global[/caption]But the Alphard is a whole different animal in this regard as its nothing close to the Innova you have seen and probably driven.[caption id="attachment_332788" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Toyota Global[/caption]Luxury MPVs pack in a lot more power (abroad, they come in V8 and V6 engine options to begin with) and will spoil you with creature comforts and space. They offer anything from 6 to 8 seat options in comfort with plenty of leg space.[caption id="attachment_332787" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image: Toyota Global[/caption]Exterior styling on these luxury MPVs are aggressive and will grab anyone's attention. And they go fast as well Overdrive points out, "The 2.5-litre 2AR-FXE hybrid motor is perky, there’s strong performance on offer through a 6-speed automatic transmission and with the hybrid power train efficiency should not be an issue either." The full-size luxury MPV could be priced around the Rs 50 lakh mark.
