Spied: Mahindra S101 in near production form testing in India

Mahindra has quite a few all-new products lined up in its portfolio. While the sales for the TUV300 will start on September 10, the next in line S101 isn't going to be a long wait either. We have been getting images of the compact S101 SUV testing in India since last year. However, OVERDRIVE reader Parikshit Deshpande, has now sent in images of what looks like the production form of the S101.

It is expected that this Mahindra will use the same hydroformed chassis on which the TUV300 is based. The SUV looks less than 4m in length and similar to the upcoming Renault Kwid. While there aren't any clear front images of the SUV yet, it looks proportional from the sides with those hidden rear door handles, wrap-around tail lamps, integrated roof spoiler, reflectors on the bumper and a hidden exhaust tip.

The S101's cabin will be trendy as seen in these images sent by another OD reader, Daniel Anandaraj from Chennai. The steering wheel looks new and has audio and Bluetooth controls on it. Expect other creature comforts in the cabin like automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system. It is likely that ABS will be standard on the S101 keeping in mind the upcoming stringent safety norms which are soon going to be implemented in India.

Mahindra will most likely put in all-new engines in the S101 SUV. These may include three-cylinder petrol units and a diesel mill developed with assistance from SsangYong. While a manual transmission will be the standard choice, an AMT may also be in the pipeline.

Expect Mahindra to launch the S101 compact SUV at the  2016 Auto Expo. It will take on bigger hatchbacks like the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. Mahindra is likely to call it the XUV100. The name CUV100 has also been doing the rounds.
