A look into the Celerio diesel's rivals -, the Grand i10 and Beat


Maruti has just unveiled the Celerio diesel. While this wouldn't be surprising considering that Maruti would have used the Fiat-derived MultiJet motor for the Celerio, the company chose to get its own diesel engine. So Maruti Celerio has an in-house developed diesel engine - a two-cylinder all-aluminium 800cc unit which makes nearly 48PS of power and 125Nm of torque. Like its petrol counterpart, there are four variants and only the ZDi(O) gets dual airbags and ABS.
But the Celerio's unit isn't the only small capacity motor around. Sure, it is the smallest but then there is the Chevrolet Beat diesel which, at 1,000cc, was the smallest unit for quite some time.
