Rs 5,000 fine for drivers who violate the odd-even rule during trial period in Delhi
The Delhi Government is also planning to restrict entry of private cars into the state at certain times
To ensure that Delhi citizens follow the odd-even rule during the 15-day trial period in January, the authorities are planning to impose a fine of up to Rs 5,000 on anyone found breaking it. This fine will be enforced through provisions in the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act.
The Delhi Government is also planning on extending section 194 of the Motor Vehicles Act which restricts entry of commercial vehicles to Delhi at certain times, to private cars. Under this section, the government can impose a fine of Rs 2,000 or more for violating this rule.
Meanwhile, Delhi is gearing up for January 1, 2016 when the odd-even policy will come into effect. To reduce inconvenience to the public, the Delhi Transport Corporation will run 6,000 additional buses during the 15-day trial period of the odd-even rule. 4,000 of these are from private bus operators while the other 2,000 buses are from those that run school bus services.
