Jaguar F-Type Ingenium petrol is its most powerful four-cylinder ever
Yes, that's a Jaguar F-Type with a 4-cylinder inline that's built with efficiency in mind.
The Jaguar F-Type is indeed a one of a kind offering from Jaguar that packages years of heritage with oodles of power. But in today's day and age, luxury car makers are also looking at efficiency. So how do you offer a growling V6/V8 F-Type as a fuel efficient vehicle? Well you don't. Which is why Jaguar has now unveiled a new F-Type variant with an Ingenium petrol engine inside. If you are familiar with the term 'Ingenium', you will also know that it mainly consists of Jaguar's less powerful but efficient offerings, usually available in its humbler 4-door saloon range. Thanks to this efficient Ingenium engine, Jaguar has pulled off a rather unconventional combination that offers an all-aluminium two-seat sports car with 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine.
The engine however is turbocharged and delivers 300PS of power along with a maximum torque of 400Nm that is generated at just 1,500rpm. The same is coupled to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission and delivers good response with power available throughout the rev range. This is indeed Jaguar's most powerful 4-cylinder offering yet. But the focus here is on efficiency.
The 300PS engine also generates the highest specific power output of any engine in the F-TYPE range, 150PS per litre. There's a 16 percent improvement in fuel economy over the 340PS V6, together with CO2 emissions of just 163g/km on the European combined cycle. The smaller engine also helps with weight reduction, 52kgs in all. And all of this weight is now off the front axle that according to Jaguar adds to its fuel efficient figures.
"Introducing our advanced four-cylinder engine to F-TYPE has created a vehicle with its own distinct character. Performance from an engine of this size is remarkable and is balanced with improved fuel efficiency and affordability, making the F-TYPE experience more accessible than ever before." said Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar F-Type.The 300PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with Quickshift RWD will be available for both the F-TYPE Coupé, Convertible and the F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupé, Convertible.
