GoPro integrates its cameras with third-party products

In a private press conference in San Francisco, GoPro showed the press a number of innovative gadgets it has been silently developing with small and large companies around the world. GoPro launched its developer program, which opens up access to a GoPro for third-party apps and gear.There is a software interface for Android and iOS apps for control of the camera, live view and media management. Devices can physically interface with the GoPro via the HEROBus. Third-party gadgets can also wirelessly control the GoPro using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Finally, the program allows for solid mounts for various meatspace applications. Engadget has posted a video from the event.Over 30 existing devices were demonstrated at event. BMW showcased its BMW M Laptimer system is meant for enthusiast drivers, and gathers GPS, acceleration, steering angle, lap times and other telemetry data using GoPro cameras. These connect to a smartphone app that allow for easy social network sharing. Fisher-Price demonstrated baby friendly casings and mountings on a number of its products, including a baby walker. This implementation is sure to be popular with parents who want to capture special memories of their toddlers. There were devices meant for the media industry, with a physical third-party live streamer and a timecode synchronisation device. The Developer program is now open to all, and there is also an experimental version of Developer Program Labs that explore and test innovative concepts.The GoPro action cameras were so far targeted mostly at adrenaline junkies, this seems like a move to revitalize the company after a bad year, reports FastCompany.
