Gaza War: Envoys from Hamas, Qatar, US arrive in Egypt for peace talks

Delegations from Qatar, the US, and Hamas have reportedly arrived in Egypt for "a new round of negotiations" toward a ceasefire in the Gaza War.

In weeks of negotiations aimed at stopping the combat in the almost five-month-old conflict between Israel and Hamas, which was triggered by the October 7 terrorist attack, the US, Qatar, and Egypt have served as mediators.

Their objective has been to negotiate a truce by the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan the following week, but a string of impasses in negotiations has dashed hopes.

According to a report by state-affiliated Al-Qahera News on Sunday, the main focus of the negotiations has been on a six-week ceasefire proposed by Hamas in exchange for increased humanitarian supplies and the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Around 1,160 people, primarily civilians, were killed in the terrorist attack by Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, which marked the start of the Gaza War.

Additionally, 250 hostages were taken by Hamas; 130 of them, including 31 people who are thought to be dead, are still in captivity, according to Israel.

The Gaza Health Ministry announced on Sunday that 30,410 individuals had died as a result of Israel's military onslaught on the beleaguered Palestinian territory, the majority of whom were women and children.
