Facebook's decision to buy mobile messaging service WhatsApp broke the tech acquisition records by a whopping $6.5 billion — the previous major deal being Google buying Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion.Facebook decided to fork out $19 billion for the hugely popular WhatsApp — putting to an end months of speculation about the deal. Facebook paid $4 billion in cash and approximately $12 billion worth in shares.
