Canada trip ends today: Modi visits Gurudwara, Laxmi Narain Temple in Vancouver

VANCOUVER: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the Gurudwara Khalsa Diwan and Laxmi Narain Temple in Vancouver in the final leg of this three-day visit to Canada which ends today. The PM was received by his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper at the airport.Earlier, while leaving from Toronto, PM Modi had tweeted, "Leaving for Vancouver, which is the final leg of my Canada visit. Will offer prayers at Gurudwara Khalsa Diwan and Laxmi Narain Temple there."Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend an official dinner hosted by PM Harper, before departing for India.[caption id="attachment_2200258" align="alignleft" width="380"] Image: Narendra Modi's Twitter handle[/caption]On Thursday, the PM visited the memorial in Toronto for the victims of Air India Flight 182 that was bombed in 1985, killing all 329 people on board. He was accompanied by PM Harper during the visit."PM @narendramodi and @pmharper at the Air India memorial," Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, tweeted.Air India Flight 182, a Boeing 747 named "Kanishka", flying on the Montreal-London-New Delhi route on June 23, 1985, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after being bombed while in Irish airspace.Of the 329 killed, 268 were Canadian citizens, mostly of Indian descent. There were 24 Indian and 27 Britons as well.PM Modi, along with Mr Harper, interacted with the relatives of the victims who had gathered at the memorial.IANS
