Delhi Police website attacked for the second time during G20 Summit by Pakistan-based hackers

Just 24 hours after it first faced a slew of cyberattacks, the website of the Delhi Police was again attacked by hackers based out of Pakistan. The Delhi Police website has been experiencing extended downtime, for the second consecutive day.Users attempting to access the website are greeted with an error message stating, "The service is unavailable." It's worth noting that the site also encountered a brief 10-minute outage on Friday.According to threat intelligence platform Falcon Feeds IO, the ongoing cyberattack is believed to be originating from a group known as Team Insane PK, a notorious hacking collective based in Pakistan. This group has gained notoriety for its cyberattacks on Indian government and business websites.The situation became even more concerning as both the Delhi Police and Mumbai Police websites experienced outages around the same time on Friday.Falcon Feeds IO provided insights into Team Insane PK, describing it as a religious hacktivist group that has been particularly active in targeting Indian cyberspace since February 2, 2023. The group is known for engaging in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and defacement attacks.To elaborate, DDoS attacks involve overwhelming a server with an exceptionally high volume of internet traffic. This is a deliberate tactic employed by cybercriminals to disrupt access to online services and websites for legitimate users. The result is often a temporary or prolonged disruption of services, causing significant inconvenience and chaos for the entities being targeted.While after Friday’s attack, it took the Delhi Police 10 minutes to get their website up and running again, after the most recent attack, it took the police forces about 30 minutes to get their website functioning again.
