Guess who’s going in for a makeover? YouTube is soon to get an additional new logo and is already teasing a sleek new design on its Facebook and Twitter pages. The company says that this new logo will be an effort towards the play button representing itself and the old logo will still be hanging around.

YouTube seems to have gone with a minimalistic, white-upon-red coloured logo that brings to the fore the play button. We’ve all seen YouTube’s original logo and not many are a fan of the stagnant look the service currently sports. The red bubble “Tube” encased within the logo is a throwback to days where shiny, glossy logos were the norm and the service has done little to make it evolve and fit the changing times. The new design with the same old colour scheme, thus, looks like an exciting prospect.Minimal is the way to go

Even while YouTube’s Facebook and Twitter pages are draped in designs more in line with the new logo, the company has told The Verge in a statement that the old logo will stay. “Our main logo is a core part of YouTube and is not going away.  We are increasingly using our play button for apps and icons,” it said.

That seems to make sense too. The minimalistic play button design sports a flat look that seems to be developed under iOS 7’s and Windows Phones’ Metro dual guidelines. Not just these two OS platforms, the logo seems like it will fit in snugly with Android as well. Thanks to an update rolled out a while ago, the play-button logo can be seen on iOS and Android phones already but YouTube seems ready for a wider rollout now.
