VAIO to enter mobile market; to announce first-ever smartphone on 12 March

Early 2014, Sony decided to exit the PC business and sold the Vaio unit to investment fund Japan Industrial Partners. The company had been in discussions with Japan Industrial Partners after rumours of Lenovo looking to form an alliance with Sony for the PC business emerged.However new reports indicate that VAIO will now enter the mobile market and introduce their first-ever smartphone as early as 12th March. The device has been spotted in an undisclosed benchmark test and few specifications have been revealed.According to a Japanese Blog, the VAIO phone will sport a 5.0 inch HD display with a resolution of 720 X 1280 pixels. It is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor with a 64-bit chipset. It will have 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device will mostly come with Android 5.0 out-of-the-box.It will have a 13MP rear camera along with a 5MP front facing camera. The device is said to be single-SIM and will come with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options. No word yet on battery, price or date of release. We'll have to wait and see till 12 March if and when the phone is launched.
