Unicode Consortium approves 72 new emojis

Unicode Technical Committee (UTC), also known as Unicode Consortium has approved about 72 characters as new emojis that will the part of Unicode 9, releasing on June 21. This new set will the part of iOS 10 when it is released later this year.As reported by 9to5Mac initially there were around 77 new emoji characters which were accepted as candidates, but the final count at the writing was 72. This includes a clown face, rolling on the ground laughing emoji, taking a selfie, left and right hand fist, gorilla face, pancakes, peanuts, and a glass of milk.These choices are taken on the proposals of Emoji Subcommittee and unicode members and they are selected on Selection Factors in "Submitting Emoji Character Proposals". Anyone can submit emoji proposals to be added in Unicode and after the announcement already there have been 5 submissions which make the number of total new emojis to 77. The submissions are on the basis of all the platforms that use Unicode and not just on the basis of the one the user uses and thinks is popular.The emojis added every year are added to the release of next year like the ones added in 2016 will be added in 2017 release of the newer version of Unicode. The important thing to note is that despite the Unicode Consortium adding them, they won't appear automatically on your devices, instead it's up to the company making the operating systems like Apple, Microsoft to incorporate them.
