Uber's uberPOOL carpooling service arrives in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata

Uber has launched uberPOOL in 3 more Indian cities—Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. The service has been catering to Delhi and Bangaluru travellers for over 6 months now.It’s a car pooling service that is claimed to offer 50 percent of the rate of uberGO. Ola already has a similar system in place in the form of Ola Share and it allows participating passengers to pay 60 percent of the standard rate.

Uber claims that uberPOOL in India has so far saved 300,000 litres of fuel, cut down on almost 800 tonnes of CO2 emissions and that 25 percent of all Uber rides in Delhi and Bangalore are uberPOOL rides.Amit Jain, President Uber India said, “We are excited to bring carpooling at the push of a button to three more cities in India. Uber is committed to bringing innovative urban mobility options that will help reduce congestion and pollution in our cities over time.  Getting more people in fewer cars results in riders having to pay less and also drivers spending less idle time between rides. It is a simple yet powerful example of how we can use technology to transform our cities”Globally, Uber claims that uberPOOL has saved 16,000 tonnes of CO2, over 140 million km of travel and millions of litres of petrol.
