Twitter's Making Itself More Secure By Going Https

Back in January, Facebook upped its security by adding the option of accessing Facebook using https, making their connection more secure. Twitter's now added the same feature, giving users the option of connecting to Twitter.com more securely. This feature is handy when accessing the site over an unsecured Wifi connection, like a public place, where people are able to evesdrop on your activity.

Check the "Always Use https" box

To turn on https, go to 'Settings' and check the box next to "Always use https". In the future, they're going to tweak it so all users are able to use https by default. They've already made it default to a few, specific accounts so those users will be connected with https whether they've checked the box or not. Also, https is made default in two cases. One, on the page where you enter your account name and password so your password stays protected, and two on the official Twitter for iPhone and iPad applications. Accessing Twitter on its mobile site though, https://mobile.twitter.com doesn't connect with https if you've just checked the box, you need to be sure to type https. They are, however, working on a solution where if you do select the "Always use https" box, it connects with https across all official Twitter platforms. Third party app users should check if the apps they use allow the option of connecting with https.
