TDK Announces 16.5 GB Mini Blu-ray Discs
TDK has unveiled new 8cm mini Blu-ray discs that hold upto 16.5GB on a single layer for use with high definition camcorders.

DVD Camcorders are becoming very popular, but the paltry 1.4 GB capacity of the small 8cm discs used in the devices is proving to be a big problem, particularly with the advent of HD camcorders.
TDK looks to have a solution for this already: 8cm Blu-ray discs! These mini Blu-ray discs store upto 16.5 GB on just a single layer, which is almost space as much as a quad-layer current-gen DVD (around 18) and they've already got plans of making a dual-layer one with around 33 GB of storage! They will be available in recordable (BD-R) and rewriteable (BD-RE) formats and will support full HD (1080p) video as required by the Blu-ray standard.
Right now these discs are just at CEATEC, so don't get your hopes too high already. Your investment in the DVD camcorder you just bought is safe.
