Sandy Bridge CPUs Already On Sale?

Yesterday, we told you about the Sandy Bridge processors featuring a remote killswitch anti-theft system and that the processors will be released at CES next month. Turns out some retailers in Malaysia have jumped the gun and are already selling the Socket 1155 CPUs.

The three processors that have been spotted are the i5-2300 (2.8GHz, 6MB cache), i5-2400 (3.1GHz, 6MB Cache) and the Core i7-2600 (3.4GHz, 8MB cache). They’ve been priced at 585RM (~Rs. 8,500), 609RM (~Rs. 8,800) and 939RM (~Rs. 13,500) respectively. Hopefully these prices will remain consistent once the CPUs hit the Indian market, but if you look at the picture below, you’ll see that the i5-2300 and i5-2400 are priced a bit lower than and equal to the i5-760 respectively. The i7-2600 is a bit more expensive than the i7-870, so you can expect the 2300 and 2400 priced at around Rs. 10,000 and the i7-2600 at around Rs. 15,000.

Also spotted on sale were ASUS’ and Gigabyte’s P67 motherboards for the LGA1155 socket. It’s hard to say for certain if this is a case of the retailer jumping the gun, or if Intel has deliberately launched Sandy Bridge in South-East Asia. Either way, we eagerly await some benchmarks – and the official launch at CES in January.
