Samsung to launch two smartphones in India under Rs 15,000 this month

While Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Note 3  on September 17, news has it that the company will also be launching two news smartphones for its Indian audiences. This time around, the Korean company plans to focus on the mid-range phone segment and both phones will be priced under Rs 15,000. This move is to take on the fierce competition in the mid-range Indian market which has several desi players.

"We will be launching two new smart phones priced for the mid-segment market. Every phone from Samsung will have nine vernacular language options," Samsung Country Head (Mobile Business) Vineet Taneja told PTI, without mentioning the prices.

Two new mid-range phones on the way

With the new phones, the company plans to support local languages and attract non-English speaking users. Recently, Nokia had also launched an entry level phone with support for the Urdu language. In fact, Nokia supports 11 languages in all for the Indian market. Samsung enjoys 49 percent share in India’s smartphone industry and this move could help the company strengthen its user base further. Samsung’s phones are likely to offer content and applications in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati.

Reportedly, these phones could be priced somewhere between Rs 5,000-15,000. In India, most phones are sold in this price range such as Nokia Lumia 520 and 620, Blackberry Curve, Xolo smart phones and Micromax Canvas 2. "The competition now in the smart phone market is how to make the phone size small without compromising on the screen size," Taneja said. Moreover, all phones may get the dual-SIM functionality too.
