It was expected to happen and as time would have it, Samsung has started to bring some of the Note 7's software features on to its Galaxy S7 models. For now, this only appears to be an update to the Always On Display's app, that Samsung seems to have updated bringing more Note 7-like functionality to the S7 and S7 edge models in the absence of the Note 7.The same was first reported by a user on the XDA Forums. Owners of Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge models will now see an update (tagged v1.4.02) notification on the Galaxy Apps store. The new update brings features that were earlier available on the Note 7. This would include the an all-new calendar option, a new digital clock with customer text signature that can also be customised to be written with a different font or colour.[caption id="attachment_341511" align="aligncenter" width="400"]Image: Hani88 (XDA Forums) Image: Hani88 (XDA Forums)[/caption]Additionally, S7 and S7 edge owners now also get the ability to view the currently playing music track using the Always On Display.Other than this we also have some optimisations where the Always On Display now takes up less than 1 percent of battery every hour, which is big. This will lead to bigger savings on the S7 edge because it featured a larger battery as compared to the Note 7.As a warning, the user who posted news about the update also states that others on the new AOD software update have reportedly broken older and existing features.Indeed, this may be the first of many updates to come, as Samsung's Note 7 phablet for the current year, is no more. Customers who have switched or are using a S7 or an S7 edge smartphone from Samsung however have a reason to smile as they may soon see software features from the Note 7 appearing on their devices.
