Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may have an 8-core Mali 450 GPU

Another day, another Galaxy Note 3 rumour. Now that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is officially available in most major markets, Samsung fans have the Galaxy Note 3 to look forward to.

Yesterday, we told you about the three different prototypes that are being discussed at Samsung for the Note 3’s body. And today we have word about the next-gen Note’s internals.

But the big news here is that the Note 3 will be getting the next iteration of Mali GPU. The Mali 450 GPU will have 8 cores, which will drastically improve the graphics performance. If you recall, Samsung went with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU in the Galaxy S4, so this one will be a first as far as smartphones are concerned. SamMobile says this information comes through a trusted source, but it must be noted that these are unconfirmed specs.

Just like the Galaxy S4, the Note 3 will also ship with the latest version of Android, which is expected to be unveiled later this month at Google I/O. Of course, it remains to be seen whether that will be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as many rumours have suggested or Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the next big change for the OS. Regardless of which OS it will run, Samsung’s TouchWiz software overlay will be the primary UI for the Note 3.

We expect the next generation Galaxy Note to be unveiled at IFA in Berlin in September. Last year, Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 2 at that event.
