RIL plans other technologies along with LTE

4G has only just entered the Indian terrain, and we did try to simplify some of its attributes. Bharti Airtel became the first telecom provider in the country to have made their 4G services available, starting with the City of Joy, Kolkata, further moving onto Bengaluru. Reliance Industries has been in preps to start evaluating the possibilities of investing in technologies, apart from Long term Evolution (LTE). Reliance Industries plans to do so to offer comprehensive broadband services, and new technologies are being looked at, which include wireline and other wireless technologies as well.

“In addition to LTE and its future versions, Reliance will continue to evaluate and deploy other technologies, both wireless and wireline, to offer comprehensive broadband solutions to consumers, small businesses, enterprises, government and other entities,” RIL said in its annual report. The company plans to collaborate with strategic partners that will include service providers, infrastructure providers, and even device makers.

Reliance also plans to focus on security. “The traditional security platforms have been found inadequate to address the new challenges associated with global terrorism and there is need to support the efforts of our law enforcement agencies with intelligent and real time electronic and digital solutions,” RIL said. The company  acquired 95 percent stake in Infotel Broadband Services in 2010 after winning broadband spectrum in all the 22 circles. Reliance says that it will focus on making available all components of the entire digital value chain, while operators globally have been focusing only on the creation of broadband network. “Globally, many operators have focussed primarily on the creation of the broadband network. However, Reliance will focus on making available all the components of the entire digital value chain,” RIL said in its annual report. The value chain will include devices, relevant local content, customer support and network.

Reliance was reported to offer 4G plans at

10/GB and also launch its cheapest 4G tablets in the Indian market. However, there’s no word on the release date of either.
