Patent filed by Andy Rubin's Essential puts a Google Glass heir on the cards

Andy Rubin's new company Essential seems to be catching a lot of eyes and for the good reasons. It recently announced a high-end smartphone and now a report by The Verge says that the company might have bigger plans than just making phones.Patently Apple has stumbled upon an old patent which was filed and granted before Essential unveiled its new phone this week. It brings forward a concept device in the shape of standard eye-glasses with a built-in camera as well as display hardware. Basically the concept would be similar to the Snap spectacles enabling the user to shoot pictures at an eye-level, giving a more human POV.But more than that, it seems like a new approach to Google Glass by adding information and data, more on the lines of augmented reality. The patent filing says that it would features a 'dual-mode display, which would show visual overlays and use a camera placed on the opposite side to track the users eye movement. It also says that the device would work with prescription lenses, photo sensitive lenses, and standard sunglass lenses.“Based on the environment that the user sees, and based on the direction of the user's gaze, the processor can display an image to augment the environment around the user. For example, if the user is looking at a barcode of an item, the processor can display cheaper purchasing options of the same item," reads the filing.This could definitely by a step ahead of Microsoft's Holo Lens, but of course this is just a concept and there isn't even a prototype version of the device.
