Oppo to show off its first foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2019

Looks like 2019 is going to see a host of smartphone brands releasing their foldable smartphones.After Samsung showcased its foldable Galaxy F smartphone, it's now the turn of Oppo to announce its ambitions in this segment. According to a report in GSMArena, the Chinese smartphone maker has promised that it will show off its foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, next year. He did mention that Oppo plans to release a 5G smartphone in 2020 and is also looking at releasing its first phone with a display cutout in 2020. Going by Oppo's design feat with the Find X, we wouldn't be surprised if Oppo does indeed deliver on these promises. It is one company that does focus on the aesthetics of its devices.Foldable smartphones could be a design trend in 2019 as we have already seen a lot of brands showing interest in pursuing this design philosophy. Samsung has already showcased its foldable display sporting smartphone, which we will see a lot more of at MWC 2019.Huawei has also filed its own patents for a foldable smartphone.Samsung's Korean rival LG has also expressed its plans to release a foldable smartphone in 2019. LG has applied for three brand name registrations — "Flex", "Foldi" and "Duplex" — at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
