Opera becomes the default browser for Nokia X platform

Microsoft and Opera have entered an agreement that sees the latter's browser becoming default for the Nokia X platform. The news coincides with the launch of the newest smartphone in the X series dubbed Nokia X2. Launched for all Nokia X devices in January, the Opera browser is now available free to download from Nokia Store. The browser offers Opera Turbo, a cost and time-saving feature that compresses data before it reaches the user’s mobile device. By switching on compression with Opera Turbo, webpages are compressed by Opera servers, resulting in reduction of the amount of data transferred. “Our companies have enjoyed a long history together, and this represents a huge step forward for both of the companies,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “We have worked closely with the Microsoft Devices Group on this project, to make sure the users of Nokia X affordable smartphones can have the best web browsing experience right out of the box.” It also comes with the Discover feature that helps  finding new content. Finally, the Speed Dial feature lets users save, move and organize entries into folders. Opera has moved to Blink web browser engine, which is developed by Google for the Chromium project. The Opera for Android app has certainly seen a lot of new features recently, and also supports WebRTC standard, for video conferencing through the browser.
