OnePlus 3 and 3T users receive first Android Oreo based Open Beta channel release; OnePlus 5 not supported yet

Attempting to win back some of its angry customers after reportedly collecting personal user data, OnePlus has now released the first Open Beta channel based on Android Oreo for the OnePlus 3 and 3T.[caption id="attachment_4146385" align="alignleft" width="380"] OnePlus 3T. Image: Rehan Hooda/Tech2[/caption]The Chinese company is known to often push out updates with minor OS tweaks and security patch updates, however, according to a GSMArena report, this is the first Oreo-based Open Beta channel release for the two 2016 phones. The report adds that while Closed Beta Oreo builds have been around for a while, the Open Beta channel release could be good news for OnePlus 3 and 3T users as they would soon be seeing an official Android Oreo release from the company.The ROMs made available for download and digitally signed by the company include Open Beta 25 for the OnePlus 3 and Open Beta 16 for the OnePlus 3T. Users currently running an Open Beta build would be receiving the update directly as an OTA update.Users who are on the official Oxygen OS build will have to switch over to an Open Beta build to be able to run the update. For those eager to know what new features the new Oreo build brings to their devices, here is the detailed changelog posted by OnePlus on their forum.OnePlus 5 users will have to wait longer as the current release does not support the company's 2017 flagship. GSMArena states that while builds were expected for the OnePlus 5 by September end, there has been not much done on that front. The update should not take too long, however, knowing the company's strong developer community.For users still worried about OnePlus' data collection functions, early adopters have mentioned to the publication that the Open Beta does continue to include them for now though the company has promised to make them optional soon.
