Nokia's WP7 Devices to Have ST-Ericsson Processors

Apparently, Nokia will not be sticking to Qualcomm only for their WP7 handsets.

Gearing up for the new Nokia devices that will be running on Windows Phone 7? Here’s some good news for you. It seems that Nokia will not be sticking to the usual Qualcomm processors for these devices, but will also look at ST-Ericsson’s dual-core U8500 processors as an option.

Dual-core processors incoming!

Forbes has quoted STMicroelectronics’ boss Carlo Bozzoti as saying that Nokia will be using chips from STMicroelectronics in some of the devices running on Windows Phone 7. Of course the good news is that running Windows Phone 7 on these devices will now be more of a joy compared to operating with chips having single cores and slower speeds. STMicroelectronics’ U8500 dual core processor is touted to be the first from their stable, that will power Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 devices.

The only issue that is quite apparent is that the OS has been made keeping Qualcomm-based handsets in mind. So even if these processors do make it to Nokia, it’s quite obvious that these devices will be take quite some time to launch.
