Nokia prepping two Lumia phablets and a low-cost Lumia 920

Nokia is busy preparing for its big surprise for the July 11 event in New York, but we have word about the company's upcoming plans for the Lumia range.

A report by Nokia Power User suggests that the Finnish mobile company is working on two Lumia phablets and a low-cost Lumia 920. This isn't the first time we are hearing about Nokia's plans for large-screen phones, but the report comes with details about the possible launch period of these phones.

The report states that one of the phablets, which is expected to be launched between September and October this year, will come with a camera similar to that of Lumia 925 and will carry a 5.5-inch or 6-inch display. The second smartphone, which will be launched by February 2014, is expected to feature a better camera than the first phablet, with a higher megapixel count; it could also have a Lytro-style camera, which lets you adjust focus after shooting an image. Nokia has been rumoured to be using Pelican Imaging's 16-lens array to improve the photography experience on smartphones.

Nokia may be developing larger-sized handsets

The third phone mentioned in the report is a low-cost Lumia 920. This one is also expected to be launched between September and October alongside the first phablet, but not necessarily on the same date. This smartphone could be priced aggressively to counter Apple’s move of launching low-cost iPhone.

Despite its supposed low cost, the new Lumia 920 (mini, perhaps) would have an 8 megapixel Carl–Zeiss optics camera with F/1.9 aperture for better low-light photography, but it won’t have the OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) system. The phone would sport a 4.7 inch WXGA ClearBlack AMOLED display and the body would resemble that of the Lumia 720. The phone is expected to be slimmer and lighter,  and will have a similar GPU-CPU combo as the current Lumia 920.
