Nokia 8 launched with Carl Zeiss optics, 'Bothie' camera mode and Snapdragon 835 for EUR 599

After months of speculations, rumours and leaks, the Nokia 8 has finally been unveiled by HMD global at an event on 16 August in London. The phone has been launched at a price of EUR 599, according to The Verge, which is approximately Rs 45,000 at the time of writing. It is rumoured that the phone will be hitting the Indian markets by October this year.[caption id="attachment_3939205" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Image Courtesy: Nokia[/caption]This is the first time HMD Global has partnered up with Carl Zeiss for making a smartphone. The Nokia 8 has an interesting camera setup. There are three cameras in total, the rear being a dual camera. All three use 13 MP sensors with f/2.0 lenses. The rear features an RGB sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) paired with a monochrome sensor without OIS. The front and rear cameras feature PDAF and the rear camera even features an IR range finder. The latter should help with improving focus speed in the dark as well as to improve depth perception for a portrait-mode-like feature.Nokia is also introducing, we kid you not, a #Bothie photo mode. In this mode, you'll use the front and rear cameras to take an image or video. Better yet, it looks like you can live stream in this mode. Check out the demo below!The Nokia 8 has 4K streaming capabilities and employs Nokia OZO Audio for spatial 360 degree audio recording. OZO is the brand name that Nokia employs for its spatial audio and VR video recording platform. This includes the OZO+ VR camera used by many Hollywood studios.

The phone has an aluminum unibody design housing a 5.3 inch, 2K, polarized display covered with Corning gorilla Glass 5. Nokia 8 will be running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and employs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage expandable to 256 GB via a micro-SD card. The phone uses a full-length copper cooling pipe with a graphite shield to dispense of heat across the metal body of the phone.The device has a 3,090 mAh battery and 4G dual-SIM support with one slot acting as a hybrid SIM slot. It also has an IP54 rating, making it splash proof. The phone comes with a 3.5 mm jack and a type-C port (USB 3.1 Gen 1), NFC and Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity. Bluetooth 5.0 allows for streaming audio to two other Bluetooth devices, among other things. Only a handful of phones use the feature, including the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the HTC U11.The Nokia 8 will be available in four colours namely matte silver, polished blue, matte blue, polished copper.
