MWC 2012: Samsung announces new projector smartphone, the Galaxy Beam

Lately we’ve seen a lot of phones with projectors in the local market. With the most recent one being the Maxx Focus MTP9. On a global scale? It’s Samsung that’s brought its own sweet little surprise to the MWC 2012. From the design itself, this looks like one hell of a phone, but the projector at the top only means that it’s going to be a fingerprint magnet, pretty soon. But again, we wouldn’t prefer it anywhere else. Also, it’s super thin for a projector phone, and is fairly light at 145.3 grams. This one has a 15 lumens lamp and has the capacity of projecting a 50-inch wide high-definition picture.

Without further ado, here’s what the rest of the spec sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Beam looks like:

The phone is expected to ship with Gingerbread onboard and that seems to be quite puzzling. Also, before you get way too excited about having 6 gigs of RAM on a phone (when most laptops still don’t come with it) the 6Gb of RAM might actually be 768 MB, with the ‘b for bit (and not byte)’ being the key factor. To us, this phone definitely spells good news. Slowly but surely, phones are evolving into a wider genre without compromising on the form factor. Samsung’s always been innovating and the Galaxy Beam is the latest example of that. What’s important to notice with this new projector phone, is how good its projecting capabilities are. Because, for all you know, you might need to create a super dark surrounding, for your smartphone’s projector to be bright enough for visibility. Another important aspect is the 2000mAh battery and how much it’s capable of handling. Keeping the phone alive for about the length of two movies would be plain awesomeness. The heating up also will be an important factor to consider. And as always, the price! We’ve seen projector phones debut in the Indian market for as little as 7k. Obviously, this one will be a lot more than that, considering the specs; but if they do price it sweetly, we’ve got two and not one thing to look forward to, in the Galaxy Beam!
