Microsoft Office for iPad is a hit: 12 million downloads in one week

Microsoft's Office for iPad is officially an hit. According to a tweet from the company, the apps for Word, Excel, Powerpoint and One Note for iPad has seen over 12 million downloads collectively.

Twelve million is a big number, given that users still need an official subscription to Office 365 to edit documents on Office for iPad.

The apps had reached the number one, two, and three spots on the App Store for iPad, with hours of the official launch. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had tweeted saying, "“Looks like it’s a pretty productive Friday for #iPad owners!” with a picture showing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint were the three most popular free applications at the App Store.

After the launch of the iPad apps, Microsoft has made the Office apps completely free on iPhone and Android for those who had a Home subscription account. However, users can't edit 97-2003 format documents on the apps.

As far as prices go the Office 365 Premium version costs around Rs 4,199 or around $69.9 per year and gives users access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SkyDrive cloud storage for 5 PCs or Macs, and mobile devices as well. You can also take a monthly subscription for around Rs 420.

Office 365 for Business starts at basic subscription price of Rs 300 per month (or close Rs 3600 per year which is around $60 per year) and allows up to 25 users.
