Micromax will be an exclusive Cyanogen partner in India

By now we all know that Micromax has announced a partnership with Cyanogen Inc., to bring out its online-only brand YU. In a latest press release from Cyanogen Inc., the company will be in an exclusive partnership with Micromax in India, and as part of the exclusive deal, "Cyanogen OS will not support any other devices shipping in India with future updates including Lollipop."

The Micromax-Cyanogen partnership will be a one of its kind hardware-software partnership pertaining an Indian handset maker. The first device coming out of this union will be the first to be launched with Cyanogen's new Themes app which allows deep levels of user interface customisation. Micromax YU buyers will also get the benefit of Nexbit's Baton which is a cloud syncing app service.

Micromax YU has already started its own Twitter page today, so one can expect a launch to happen soon. According to Micromax, we should be looking at a mid-December launch.

What is a matter of concern though is the clause which states that Cyanogen OS will not support any other devices. While it surely gives an edge to Micromax in terms of the differentiating aspect of having a Cyanogen OS on its phones, it is unclear if this clause extends to OnePlus One (which comes with Cyanogen Mod 11S), which is expected to launch in India next week.
